Pentwater Talks

Lake Michigan living at its best

I have VERY fond memories of Old Trails Stables.  Who else remembers?  Trails - High Trail, Low Trail, Trout Lake Trail (early trails southwest of the stables) and later Back Trail .  Horses - Cochise, Polka, Honey, Squeaky, Zero, Flicka, Flame, and Midnight.  This was my "home" away from home.  When I would come back from riding all day, my mom would hand me a bar of ivory soap (it floats) and I would go down to the lake and jump in with my clothes on!

John Flood owned the stables. My sister was the rider in our family. I mostly rode in the corral. Once a bee stung my horse and it threw me. As I lay on the ground, the horse came up to me and nudged me with its muzzle like it was apologizing to me. My Father made me get back on and continue my ride. There sure was nothing "fancy" about this place. John wore old dirty clothes and didn't talk much which actually added to the "rustic flavor" of the experience.
